InteliBuild Technyx Asia, a division of Technyx, will partner in the construction of a landmark warehouse distribution center in Hong Kong called Interlink. InteliBuild was awarded a contract to provide BIM consulting services by Hip Hing Construction, the main contractor. The construction project, which broke ground on March 4, is worth an estimated CA$550 million.
Once it is completed in January 2012, the 26-story, 2.4 million sq. ft. (222,000 m2) structure, designed to meet elevated technical and environmental specifications, will be one of the most efficient and modern warehouse distribution centers in Hong Kong.
BIM consulting services
InteliBuild’s mandate is to provide independent BIM consulting services in order to validate the building’s overall design. The company’s expertise in clash detection and resolving design issues will therefore be instrumental in ensuring that construction goes as planned and that the various delivery deadlines are met.
Numerous digital models depicting the building’s architectural, structural and MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) components will be generated and interfaced to identify potential conflicts and eliminate delays as well as additional costs during construction.
InteliBuild will also produce a 4D animation simulating the construction of the warehouse from start to finish. The animation will show the gradual transformation of the worksite, including the movements of tower cranes that will be used to assemble the concrete floors and spiral ramp.
Green building standards
The Interlink warehouse will be built in compliance with BEAM (Building Environmental Assessment Method) and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building standards and will be the first industrial structure in Hong Kong to receive both accreditations.
Below are a few of the green building features that will be incorporated in this project:
• Landscaping on several roof surfaces
• Rainwater harvesting
• Water-cooled central air-conditioning
• Carbon monoxide sensors to control air quality

The 26-story warehouse will be strategically located in Hong Kong’s Tsing Yi port district.
